The American Cancer Society in Michigan has announced the appointment of Susan Venen-Bock, owner of SVB Consulting, as chair of the Michigan board. Randall Melton, vice president of merchandising at Kroger Michigan Division, will serve as vice chair.

Venen-Bock is an automotive marketing professional who began volunteering with the American Cancer Society over a decade ago, serving as a lead volunteer for the Cattle Baron’s Ball. She supported over $10 million dollars in contributions during her tenure. She resides in Grosse Pointe Woods.

Melton, of White Lake, began partnering with the ACS after he lost his mom to breast cancer. He held an area board role in Tennessee before relocating to Michigan. Over the years, he has rallied thousands of volunteers to join him on his journey and has raised more than $250,000 through Men Wear Pink.

“Both Susan and Randall have been key leaders for the American Cancer Society for a number of years. We are grateful for their willingness to step up to lead the board, bringing their breadth of expertise and dedication to driving impact across the state,” says Jennifer Beamer, director for the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society is also proud to announce new 2023 board members Jeffrey MacKeigan, assistant dean for research at Michigan State University’s College of Human Medicine, and Matt Spivey, chief technology officer at Renodis.

MacKeigan is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics & Human Development at the College of Human Medicine. His research focuses on signaling pathways important for cancer cell growth and survival, with the goal of informing new treatment strategies. MacKeigan received his doctorate in microbiology and immunology from the University of North Carolina’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. He completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School with fellowship funding from the American Cancer Society. He resides in Grand Rapids.

Spivey currently serves as the chief technology officer of Renodis, a company that analyzes and solves connectivity and technology issues for enterprise businesses across all industries. He is an advisory board member for MichiganCIO and on the partner advisory council for Cradlepoint. Spivey earned both his B.S. and M.S. in technology management at Eastern Michigan University. He resides in South Lyon.

The American Cancer Society is a global grassroots force of 1.5 million volunteers dedicated to saving lives, celebrating lives, and leading the fight for a world without cancer.

The Michigan area board provides strategic volunteer leadership to the American Cancer Society, which promotes ACS’ mission and generates revenue. The board is composed of dedicated leadership volunteers empowered to develop and execute a strategic plan in Michigan. The 2023 Michigan board of directors consists of 15 members from across the state.
