Birdie Mae’s Brunch Bar is a yet-to-be renovated establishment (the former Spears Bar & Grill) at 17332 Woodward Ave. in Detroit owned by Cierra McFarlin.
Until the space is ready for guests, Birdie Mae’s serves customers via pop-ups and by catering events. Plans are underway to introduce online sales via a company website. Items will include branded merchandise such as champagne, cognac, margarita and daiquiri glasses, and at-home craft cocktail kits.
“Birdie Mae’s Brunch Bar will be one of only two sit down dining food and beverage businesses along the Woodward and McNichols corridor, an area on the cusp of development,” McFarlin says. “In addition, the business will offer residents of (neighboring) Highland Park a dinning option in close proximity versus traveling downtown or to Ferndale.”
When complete, Birdie Mae’s Brunch Bar will offer approximately 1,800 square feet of space and seat up to 60 diners inside and another 50 on the outdoor patio. The property will feature a private drive in front of the building, a parking lot to the right of the building, and other parking lots, two of which will be will be used for valet parking and a patio buildout.
The current and future menu offers brunch with a cajun/creole flair.
“The business idea came from my memories of meals at my great grandmother’s house. She was born in Louisiana and grew up in Georgia,” McFarlin says. “She cooked chicken wings for breakfast and used a lot of spices and peppers in her meals. In addition, we are offering craft cocktails, margaritas, and daiquiris along with breakfast basics like coffee drinks and herbal tea.”
