Thermavance, a product from Traverse City-based Promethient, was introduced by the company in 2020.
Thermavance technology is designed for conductive cooling and heating of venue seating to improve thermal comfort. It may be used for either outdoor or indoor seating and is said to be impervious to weather and even power washing.
The technology is energy efficient and may be packaged into a broad range of seat designs from leading manufacturers, including the premium seating behind home plate at Comerica Park in Detroit.
The technology involves a thermoelectric device, a special kind of semiconductor, that can do heating and cooling. By using graphene, an allotrope of carbon with three times the thermal conductivity of copper, the heating and cooling created by the thermoelectric device can be spread over a larger area.
“We’re excited about the upside potential for usage in construction equipment, agricultural equipment, car seats for kids, golf carts, and more,” says Bill Myers, CEO of Promethient.
