Elaine Surnow and her sons, Max and Sam, started Cooper Street Snacks in Birmingham in 2011. In addition to their storefront at 320 Martin St., they’ve expanded their retail footprint into Meijer, Giant Eagle, Costco, BJ’s, and Whole Foods.

“My passion for baking started with a 100-year-old cookie recipe passed down from my grandmother,” says Elaine. “Some of the family’s most cherished times were in their cabin baking these cookies to share with loved ones.”

Cooper Street says it’s committed to using simple, and locally sourced ingredients. Some of the ingredients of its products have been updated to meet the needs of today’s health-conscious consumer.

The company continues to grow but also gives back to organizations such as Make a Wish Michigan, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, and other nonprofits.
