Chocolate Chipped Bakery was founded by Mary and Derek O’Connor in 2017, but opened its first storefront, in Farmington (23342 Farmington Road), in 2024. The focus of the bakery is cookies.
The bakery’s story started when Mary won first place in her inaugural baking competition at the age of 12 in her hometown of Mason, south of Lansing. From there, she helped her Grandpa Joe make his banana bread, her mother with her triple chocolate bundt cake, and her Aunt Jean with her buttery caramels.
The O’Connors moved to the Detroit area in 2015, and while she was pursuing a veterinary nursing degree, Mary embarked on a quest to create the “world’s best chocolate chip cookie.”
With Derek O’Connor’s background in business and Mary’s culinary creativity, Chocolate Chipped Bakery came to be. In addition to the original chocolate chip cookie, the bakery offers creative flavors such as confetti cake batter, pumpkin spice chocolate chip, and gluten free-vegan chocolate chip.
“Mary and I have a goal to expand our Chocolate Chipped Bakery storefronts across Michigan, and become a household name while continuing to provide incredible tasting baked goods, along with our extraordinary customer service,” says Derek O’Connor. “We’re motivated, each and every day, to deliver a truly superior customer experience.”
