
Lawrence Technological University in Southfield will play host to the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Society International’s World Congress Oct. 9-11.
More than 100 industrial engineering experts, academics, and students from around the world are expected to attend the event, representing 30 to 40 countries.
Industrial engineers optimize complex processes, systems, and organizations by developing, improving, and implementing systems of people, equipment, information, knowledge, and money. They aim to reduce waste and improve the quality of products and services, using knowledge and skills in the mathematical, physical, and social sciences, together with engineering analysis and design principles and methods.
The IEOM Society International is a global organization, operating in 151 countries, dedicated to the advancement of the industrial engineering and operations management discipline for the betterment of humanity. It also has 248 student chapters in 55 countries, including one at LTU.
Chairing the conference is IEOM member Nick Skope, vice president at the Farmington Hills-based automation supplier Electro-Matic Products Inc. Among the co-chairs are LTU Associate Professor Ahad Ali, director of LTU’s Bachelor and Master of Science in Industrial Engineering programs, and LTU Assistant Professor George Pappas, who directs the university’s Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence program.
The theme of the conference is “Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Digitization, Including Vehicle Electrification and Smart Mobility.” The conference is designed to provide a forum for academics, researchers, and practitioners to exchange ideas and recent developments in the field of advanced manufacturing technologies, manufacturing digitization, artificial intelligence in manufacturing, smart manufacturing, vehicle electrification, smart mobility, industrial automation, and manufacturing operations excellence.
IEOM is accepting papers for presentation at the conference and publication in its proceedings.
There also will be several competitions in categories such as best student paper, best vehicle electrification project, best smart mobility project, and a high school STEM competition.
