CrossBraining, an eLearning platform in Ann Arbor, and NewForge, a company based in Fort Mill, S.C., that offers AR-AI technology, have launched an integrated workforce development platform called SmartLearning.

CrossBraining, founded in 2019, is a skill-based, eLearning platform that combines the power and reach of virtual learning with the one-on-one interaction of classroom instruction.

NewForge leverages the power of AI and AR to enhance workforce productivity through real-time knowledge sharing and intelligent guidance.

The new offering from the two companies is designed to “transform” skill-based learning and on-the-job performance support across industries.

Accelerating how job seekers move from the front door to the work floor, the SmartLearning  platform combines CrossBraining’s skill certification and eLearning expertise with NewForge’s AI-driven knowledge sharing and AR-powered real-time guidance.

Together, they offer a streamlined, scalable solution to address critical workforce challenges, including skill gaps, retiring experts, and operational inefficiencies.

A 2024 McKinsey Report notes critical skilled roles, including welders, construction laborers, electricians, and other related professions are part of a growing annual hiring demand that is 20 times the average increase for new jobs from 2022-2032.

The rate of churn could cost companies more than $5.3 billion annually in talent acquisition and training costs alone. Additional lost productivity as new talent is brought up to speed could amount to significantly more.

“By uniting our technologies, we are enabling organizations to upskill their workforces with unparalleled precision and efficiency,” says Josh Nichols, CEO of CrossBraining. “This solution provides a new approach to skill-building and rapid workforce development.”

Javier Ortiz, CEO of NewForge, states, “SmartLearning ensures that expertise is captured, validated, and shared, empowering workers to achieve competence faster and more effectively. This partnership supports industries grappling with workforce challenges in a very meaningful way.”

Key benefits of SmartLearning include:

  • Scalable Expert Knowledge: Eliminate reliance on a single expert and share critical skills organization-wide.
  • Reduced Training Costs: Minimize travel expenses and time lost to traditional face-to-face instruction.
  • Competence Validation: Move beyond paper-based certifications with real-world performance assessments.
  • Performance-Based Training: Deliver asynchronous, on-demand training that adapts to worker schedules.
  • Skilled Trade Support: Address shortages in skilled trades by streamlining knowledge transfer and training delivery.
