    Reading Works and the Wayne State University Harris Literacy Program will host the Fifth Annual Pulse Conference.

    Pulse stands for Practice-based Updates for Literacy, Skill development, and Employment. The conference is a day long event that includes speakers, discussions, and workshops for literacy providers, educators, employers, public officials, and the general public.

    Topics will include effective practices in adult literacy, emphasizing reading, writing, math application, data interpretation, technology, integrated education, and work readiness. Other topics will be digital literacy, trauma-informed teaching, ESL challenges, and diversity in the workplace.

    Jeff Donofrio, Michigan’s director of labor and economic opportunity, will be one of the keynote speakers.

    Representatives from Flagstar Bank, Walgreens, and Milton Manufacturing will also speak on their partnerships with adult education agencies to help employees learn and apply new skills.
