West Bloomfield’s Vera and Joseph Dresner Foundation was created in 2000 to continue to legacy of Vera and Joseph beyond their deaths. The couple lived and raised their children in metro Detroit after Joe graduated from the University of Michigan and finished a stint in the U.S. Army and Vera finished at Wayne State University. Joe started Highland Construction with his father and brother, and the company’s success gave the family the financial means to start the foundation. The foundation seeks to support betterment of life through funding causes centered on youth and family, health, and animal welfare, with a specific focus on helping the less privileged in society. The foundation recently gave $50,000 to Big Green Detroit and $20,000 to Prodigy Ventures, which provides professional development and job training for low-income young adults. In response to the pandemic, the foundation has donated more than $130,000 to the Downtown Boxing Gym, which has been providing youth with meals and snacks and helping families who are food insecure.
