Varner Vitality Lecture with Lech Wałęsa

Lech Wałęsa, former president of Poland, was the Varner Vitality Lecture keynote speaker on Friday, Nov. 15 at Oakland University in Rochester Hills. He discussed the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall and his country’s struggles against communism. Wałęsa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 and was an electrician, trade union organizer, philanthropist, and human rights activist. // Photographs by Patrick Gloria
