The Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan in Detroit is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1916 with the goal of enabling African Americans and other persons of color to achieve their fullest potential. It has a Workforce Career Development Center that provides screening, employability skills training, counseling, job referrals, and placement along with many other programs and events throughout the year that serve more than 156,000 people annually. One such program is Women, Infants, and Children, which provides supplemental food and professional nutritional education to breastfeeding mothers who are at health risk due to inadequate nutrition. The organization operates from two Detroit locations, including Albert Kahn’s historic home in north Brush Park.
