University Musical Society, part of the University of Michigan, is a performing arts nonprofit organization. Celebrating its 142nd season, the group’s mission is to inspire individuals and enrich communities by connecting audiences and artists through uncommon and engaging experiences. It offers more than 60 performances per year in music, theater, and dance. For K-12 students, the nonprofit organizes field trips, teaching guides, and workshops. The organization regularly working with Ann Arbor Public Schools and the Washtenaw Intermediate School District. The UMS Performance Playground offers online learning resources for K-8 students. At the college level, it offers master classes with world-class artists for pre-professional students in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance; its signature course, “Engaging Performance,” to introduce U-M undergraduate students to the performing arts; partners with the Medical School to animate the Medical Arts program, and more. It also offers community learning experiences, workshops, Q-and-A events, dance classes, and pre-performance talks. The organization is offering virtual performances in face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
