The Michigan Thanksgiving Parade Foundation was created in 1982 to stage and perpetuate America’s Thanksgiving Parade, which takes place in Detroit each year. Now called The Parade Co., the Detroit-based nonprofit is governed by civic and corporate leaders and exists through the work of 1,500 volunteers. The parade, founded in 1924, will be presented by Gardner-White this year and take place on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 26. While viewers usually line the streets, the parade will be a televised-only event this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization hosts other fundraising events throughout the year to support the parade, including the Ford Fireworks, the Strategic Staffing Solutions Turkey Trot run, and black-tie event Hob Nobble Gobble Presented by Ford. The Parade Co. Also offers prop production, parade studio tours, and event planning. To view this year’s parade, tune in to WDIV-Local 4.
