Located in Detroit, The Carr Center is a nonprofit organization that leverages the essence of the African-American cultural experience and the power of the arts to improve the lives of children and the community. Since 1991, The Carr Center has grown to preserve, present, promote, and develop African and African-American cultural arts traditions within the area’s multicultural community. It offers programs in the center and in the park directly across from the building. In the park, the organization hosts concerts, dance performances, dance parties, festivals, and temporary art installations. Previously, The Carr Center has welcomed jazz pianist Geri Allen, triple Grammy and Tony award winner Dee Dee Bridgewater, and three-time Grammy winner Terri Lyne Carrington. The Carr Center and park attract up to 50,000 visitors annually.
