Founded in 1999, the Starkweather Arts Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, promotes and fosters the appreciation of the arts and artists. It also supports the preservation of the character and quality of life in the historic Village of Romeo. Operating out of an 1865 building that was once home to Helen Starkweather, a Romeo art and drafting teacher, the organization offers monthly art shows, student art scholarships, art classes, monthly open mic, a gift shop supporting local artisans, and performs community outreach.
