Southwest Solutions is a nonprofit organization in Detroit that seeks to revitalize the city through human development, economic development, and community engagement programs. As an essential service provider, Southwest Solutions has remained open throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Its staff continues working remotely to provide mental health services, housing, and education to the most vulnerable members of the community. Southwest Solutions began as a mental health agency in 1970. Since then, the organization expanded its vision to include affordable housing and support services, neighborhood revitalization, and economic development. Its nonprofit partner, Southwest Housing Solutions, manages more than 600 apartment units that it rents to low- and middle-income individuals and families. Financial donations to Southwest Solutions enable the organization to expand its programs, better respond to the needs of the community, and withstand periodic funding cutbacks. The organization estimates that its efforts impact more than 10,000 people a year.
