The RIM Foundation strives to make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of people who have had life altering disabilities. In doing so, it works with experts at the DMC’s Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan to identify health care programs that will have the greatest impact on improving the health of those living with disabilities and their families. The foundation also is driven by research and informs the community of available resources. One of its programs, the Tribute Fund, helps to ensure that patients discharged from the hospital have access to items such as walkers and wheelchairs that will make their rehabilitation more productive. Through the program, the foundation provides a grant to the hospital to make sure that patients can continue recovery at home. The RIM Foundation also offers support groups for stroke survivors, adaptive yoga classes, and SportsAbility, a free adaptive sports program for adults that provides competitive and recreational adaptive sports such as wheelchair basketball, which is sponsored by the Detroit Pistons. The organization’s Go Beyond Gala is scheduled for Sept. 25.
