The Paul W. Smith Golf Classic, to be played Aug. 2, 2021, is an annual event that benefits four charities – Detroit PAL, Variety the Children’s Charity of Detroit, The Children’s Center, and the Children’s Foundation. To date, the tournament has raised more than $7.2 million. Paul W. Smith, morning host of News/Talk 760 AM WJR, champions the event and serves as event chair and sponsor solicitor. The event takes place at the Detroit Golf Club and includes breakfast, refreshments, an on-course lunch, a post-golf reception, and an awards dinner. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the nonprofit has created Paul W’s Caring for Kids Club. The new arm helps the 55,000 children who benefit from the golf classic each year. Due to the virus, they need more assistance.
