Orchards Children’s Services in Southfield is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and one of the largest child welfare agencies in the state of Michigan. It was founded in 1962 by the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Greater Detroit Section. Orchards started as a small residential group home for seven boys with emotional impairments. Today, Orchards Children’s Services serves more than 8,000 children throughout 15 counties in the state of Michigan. It is dedicated to fulfilling its mission of strengthening the community through quality services to children and families. The organization believes in engaging individuals in planning for their own future, and with the support of our programs many families are successful. By working in partnership with parents, relatives, foster parents, and youth in their households and communities, the group works to empower families to achieve stability and long-term self-sufficiency.
