The Michigan Abolitionist Project is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Clinton Township that educates and engages people to eradicate human trafficking. The organization hosts community groups that typically meet monthly or quarterly to conduct awareness activities and engage in service projects in the local community that are focused on addressing human trafficking, modern day slavery, and the root causes of these issues. The Freedom Coalition brings together experienced community advocates to create a unified and comprehensive approach for the entire state. The group also supports survivors of such crimes by connecting them with resources and services, stating: “The horrible truth of slavery is not understood and appreciated until told by its survivors.”
