Located in Livonia, Mi Work Matters is a nonprofit organization with a mission to create meaningful employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities across Michigan. The organization was founded in 2018 and started by a group of families, caregivers, and advocates of people with developmental disabilities. Mi Work Matters’ first employment program began at Anastasia and Katie’s Coffee Shop and Cafe in 2019. It was created for people with disabilities to work in an inclusive and supportive environment. Employees with or without disabilities receive training, onsite support, and a paycheck while giving back to their community. The organization’s four ambassadors, who have Down syndrome, present to area businesses on the advantages of hiring individuals with Down syndrome.
