Troy-based Meritor’s corporate responsibility focuses its giving on diversity, education, health and human services, and industry. The team also has a commitment to being a good environmental steward. Meritor and its joint venture partner, the Kalyani Group, made a donation to restore Thippayana Lake in Mysore, India, a polluted 9.5-acre lake, into a clear body of water for the local community in 2017. The company has also created the Meritor Trust Fund, which aims to introduce students to science, technology, engineering, and math. This fund has supported a partnership with SkillsUSA, which brings together 300,000 students and instructors annually to improve the quality of America’s skilled workforce through structured technical and professional skills training. Meritor also introduced more than 700 middle school students to STEM’s real-world applications using streaming technology to connect classrooms and the company’s South Carolina facility. Meritor has also supported organizations including the Arbor Day Foundation, Common Ground, the Boys and Girls Club, and Haven Place.
