KIDSgala is a foundation that hosts celebrations and honors the lives of children struggling with various illnesses and disabilities. David McKnight formed the foundation in 2013 after his friend’s 9-year-old daughter, Nicole Burton, had passed away from her battle with leukemia. In memory of Burton, the foundation dedicates itself to hosting events that celebrate each child’s life achievements. Through its annual event, known as the White Party, the foundation brings together supporters and sponsors that raise thousands of dollars that make special celebrations a reality for children. Families of interested children can apply to the organization to have their own celebration but must first meet specific criteria. The board chooses the event recipients, and McKnight plans the celebration with the help of his company, Emerald City Designs. The first event was held in November 2014 and celebrated Max, a young boy with Down syndrome, cataracts, and leukemia.
