Located in Detroit, Just Speak is a nonprofit healing-centered advocacy that provides crisis support and resiliency programming to children between the ages of 3 and 17 who face trauma from child, physical, sexual, and psychological abuse. Due to COVID-19, Just Speak is offering virtual programs. Through the programs, children can receive academic support in math, English, reading, and more. Just Speak also hosts workshops and presentations that can be peer-led or facilitated by advocates. Topics discussed within the workshops include childhood trauma, bullying, child sexual abuse, and more. The organization’s Move program uses movement therapy to develop coping skills and sensory awareness and prevent severe responses to trauma. Just Speak supports the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, which is dedicated to sharing information about the effects of trauma.
