The Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, which has offices in Dearborn and Washington, D.C., provides objective research and education about American Muslims to support well-informed dialogue and decision making and fight Islamophobia. The organization offers educational events and workshops, reports, and online resources with a focus on media organizations; policymakers; schools, colleges, and universities; community leaders; faith leaders; law enforcement; nonprofit leaders; and more. In 2019, it trained leaders from nearly 1,800 institutions and hosted 21,346 people at events. Since its founding in 2002, the organization has produced 1,052 publications, 169 reports and policy briefs, and 828 articles and op-eds. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ISPU is disseminating a survey designed to find out how the virus is impacting the mental health, faith, service work, and other aspects of life for American Muslims. The organization’s annual banquet will take place virtually on Nov. 21.
