Detroit-based Henry Ford SandCastles offers grief support for children, teens, and families. It is the organization’s belief that each individual has the natural capacity to heal throughout the process of grieving. Year-round programs are offered; however, due to COVID-19, sessions are being held virtually. SandCastles camp is a weekend-long camp experience that offers grief support from professional staff and trained volunteers. The program offers techniques that help youth cope with their losses in a constructive way. Youth are provided a way to express their emotions and thoughts in a way that helps empower one another. Therefore, the program attendees learn to be emotionally healthy and able to make positive choices well into adulthood. SandCastles aims to be recognized as experts in the field of child, teen, and family grief support and education within the Henry Ford Health System, the community and the nation. The program is self-sustaining with philanthropic, volunteer, and community support, and services are free for participants.
