GDABVI LogoThe Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired serves residents in the seven southeast Michigan counties of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Washtenaw, Livingston and St. Clair. The organization was founded in 1961 as a nonprofit called the Metropolitan Society for the Blind to provide direct services to people in metro Detroit who were blind or visually impaired, and to provide consultation and staff training to health agencies and educational institutions. The agency works with a variety of community partners to provide services including vision rehabilitation therapy, orientation and mobility, and training in how the visually impaired perform essential day-to-day tasks.
