The Downtown Detroit Partnership convenes government partners, local businesses, and community members with the goal of advancing Detroit through engagement, development, and programs that are beneficial to the city. The four main initiatives that drive the DDP’s mission are developing the Business Improvement Zone, parks and placemaking, planning, and safety and security. Upcoming events organized by DDP include the 17th Annual Detroit Tree Lighting, which will take place on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Unlike previous years, the tree lighting will not include an in-person element and will only be broadcast on WXYZ-TV Channel 7 for everyone to view due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The DDP’s annual Detroit Aglow dinner, which has brought the Detroit community together to kick off the holiday season for the past 36 years, is being expanded from a single day to an online winter-long campaign to celebrate a Season of Light and Hope. Detroit’s Campus Martius Park will remain open for visitors to view lights as well as the tree.
