The Detroit Institute for Children is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Walled Lake that serves children with special needs in more than 150 schools throughout southeast Michigan. The organization was founded in 1920 as the Detroit Orthopedic Clinic to treat the effects of polio and tuberculosis on metro Detroit children. The group offers school-based services, occupational therapy, speech therapy, summer enrichment, and workshop programs.
