Detroit Impact focuses on Detroit’s west side neighborhoods and works to bring resources and creative empowerment to residents. It helps low-income and at-risk youth develop a value system, personal motivation, and self-esteem, working with parents, churches, schools, and the business community. The ChangeMakers leadership development program encourages positive decision making and critical thinking skills while improving reading comprehension skills and social skills. It also provides opportunities for creative expression. Detroit Impact’s Kids Club is an after-school and weekend program for youth ages 6-12. It offers board games, artistic enrichment classes, field trips, tutoring, and reading and financial literacy. Finally, the organization’s STEAM programming (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) offers opportunities to learn about alternative and renewable energy and how to code.
