Detroit Historical Society 100th Anniversary Celebration

The Detroit Historical Society celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Detroit Historical Museum at special VIP reception on Saturday, April 29. The celebration took place in the Detroit Historical Museum. The theme was “Celebrating Detroit through the Decades,” and the event placed a spotlight on 100 years of collecting, sharing, and preserving Detroit’s history and why telling these stories matters. The evening included a strolling dinner and dessert reception throughout the museum, a silent auction and raffle, plus various entertainment experiences, including period actors bringing museum exhibits to life. A special ceremony also honored Detroit legends, including Detroit Pistons veteran Ben Wallace, Lions player Lomas Brown, sports broadcasters George Blaha and Ken Daniels, and anchorwoman Amyre Makupson. They placed their handprints and signatures into cement casts for permanent display at the Legends Plaza, the Detroit Historical Museum’s featured outdoor exhibit. // Photos by Patrick Gloria
