Creative Change is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Ypsilanti that creates classrooms where students learn to solve the problems affecting their respective futures and communities. It was founded in 2002 by Susan Santone, a public-school teacher who struggled to bring global issues such as hunger and human rights into the education curriculum. Since that time, the organization has developed strategic partnerships with schools, universities, and nongovernmental organizations — reaching 5,000 educators of educators and many more thousands of their students. Santone also has written a book, “Reframing the Curriculum: Design for Social Justice and Sustainability,” which brings together more than 20 years of approaches that allow the organization to be impactful.
