Clawson-based Christ Child Society of Detroit was founded in 1912 with the belief that nothing is ever too much to do for a child. Society members and volunteers support three major programs, all of which improve the lives of children in metro Detroit. Its main program is the Christ Child House, located on Joy Road in Detroit. The house is home to boys aged 5-16 from broken families or who have been abused or abandoned. The Layette and Literacy programs also support children who are in need. Volunteers meet twice a month to package layettes for newborn babies. Each layette comes equipped with essentials to keep a newborn baby strong and healthy. Literacy program volunteers meet once a month at Walt Whitman Elementary school in Pontiac. Program volunteers read to first- and second-grade students, help conduct an arts and craft project, and end the day with a snack.
