Charity Motors, a nationwide nonprofit with a Detroit location, sends proceeds from the sale of donated vehicles to charities and churches across the United States. Those interested can donate cars, boats, motorcycles, RVs, and camper trailers, regardless of whether they are running. Free towing services are available for donors, and the organization also occasionally accepts donations of real estate. Donors receive the full fair-market value tax deduction of their donations. Charity Motors has a dealer’s license, allowing it to transfer titles out of donors’ names. The organization also provides a 50 percent subsidy to low-income car buyers. Since its founding in 1993, Charity Motors has donated more than $100 million in gifts and car subsidies. It has supported 7,500 charities and churches nationwide, and nearly 50,000 low-income people have received transportation assistance.
