Based in Bloomfield Hills, the Catholic Foundation of Michigan seeks to support the long-term needs of the Catholic parishes, schools, ministries, and nonprofit organizations of southeast Michigan. The foundation is separate from the Archdiocese of Detroit, but it is endorsed by Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron, who is an ex officio member of the board. Supporting more than 350 organizations, the foundation to date has granted $4.8 million to area organizations. Focuses of the foundation include supporting Catholic education and formation, parish life, and social outreach. Grant recipients in 2020 include Christ the King Service Corps, the Pope Francis Center’s nutrition program, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen run through Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, and International Samaritan’s Service Immersion Scholarship Program. The foundation also supported educational programs such as the Cathedral Choir Academy of Detroit and a work-study program at Detroit Cristo Rey High School.
