The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan, founded in 1974 in Detroit, is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. The vision of the organization is that all youth achieve their full potential. Big Brothers Big Sisters believes “the sky is the limit” when young people feel supported, seen, and heard by a mentor that cares about them. It provides professionally supported mentor relationships, a Big Brother or Big Sister for each youth between the ages of 7 and 17. It supports youth in the community and in their schools to make sure they are connected to resources, opportunities, and experiences that support their road toward success.
