Beyond Basics 2024 — A Journey Through the Pages

Beyond Basics, a Southfield nonprofit that promotes literacy, hosted its annual fundraiser, “A Journey Through the Pages,” on Friday, March 1, at the Townsend Hotel in Birmingham. The nonprofit organization is dedicated to enhancing literacy among students through an individual-centered approach that is intensive, holistic, and multi-sensory, and firmly rooted in phonics. The sold-out event celebrated the organization’s 25th anniversary and the money raised will support Beyond Basics programs. Honorees included Samantha and Manuel Amezcua, the Wagerson family, the Liggett family, the Karen and Drew Peslar Foundation, the Farbman family, J.S. Mestdagh, Mike Acheson, Tattum Reading, Linda Orlans, the Aronson family, Jared Davis, Henry Wells III, Agnela Prince, the General Motors Foundation, and the Van Elslander family. // Photographs by Patrick Gloria
