SOUTHWEST DETROIT: EXCLUSIVE FREE SCREENING OF “AMERICAN HOMEBOY – PORTRAIT OF A STREET REVOLUTION,” FEB. 3

Free, but registration is required.The Southwest Detroit Business Association (SDBA) and Nuestra Cultura will commemorate Chicano History Week, February 2 – 8, with a complimentary screening of American Homeboy – Portrait Of A Street Revolution at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Senate Theater.
The documentary delves deep into the intriguing origins of Pachuco and Cholo culture, exploring its complex identity shaped by government discrimination, wartime sentiment, and rebellious first-generation Mexican Americans forging a new identity. It chronicles pivotal moments in Chicano history, from the Mexican revolution to the rise of Cholo fashion, using rare interviews with historians, academics, artists, activists, Cholos, and former law enforcement officers.
Following the screening, Director Brandon Loran Maxwell and a panel of influential figures will lead a Q&A session. Attendees will also enjoy an art exhibit featuring works by local students, immersing themselves in the vibrant expressions of Chicano culture.
