XPO Logistics — a Greenwich, Conn.-based provider of transportation logistics services — announced today that it has acquired Southfield-based NLM from Landstar System Inc. for $87 million. The company has rebranded NLM — provider of Web-based expedited transportation management — as XPO NLM.

The acquisition gives XPO Logistics entry into managed transportation, says Bradley Jacobs, chairman and CEO of XPO Logistics.

“In addition, it makes us the largest manager of expedited shipments in North America, a sector where we satisfy some of the most service-sensitive customers on a daily basis,” Jacobs says. “We’ll now market our new Web-based freight management capabilities to our largest customers, and introduce XPO NLM customers to our full range of services.”

With the close of this transaction, XPO will facilitate more than 20,000 deliveries a day companywide, Jacobs says. He adds that NLM’s proprietary software assesses hundreds of carrier analytics while facilitating more than 450,000 loads a year for shippers in North America.

A second technology product, A3i, was also included in the transaction.
