Baltia Air Lines, an international carrier with a base of operations at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti Township, should be flying by mid to late summer, says Barry Clare, the company’s vice president of finance.

Baltia is going through the Federal Aviation’s Administration certification process, and has passed the documentation process, Clare says. Once the company completes its certification process and officially launches, the airline plans to provide the first nonstop service for passengers, cargo, and mail between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, Russia.

The airline is finalizing its selection of cabin crew personnel in anticipation of training, says Tony Koulouris, a spokesman for Baltia. Most recently, Baltia’s initial crew of pilots completed ground school and will begin simulator training this month.
