Weingartz, a Utica-based outdoor power equipment and service company, has purchased Livonia’s Commercial Lawnmower, a longtime residential and commercial lawn and snow care power equipment business. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The new location will be Weingartz’s sixth in Michigan and its second business purchased in its more-than 70 years in business.

“I built Commercial Lawnmower from the ground up, and a lot of time, energy, and passion has gone into it since,” says John Murphy, founder and owner of Commercial Lawnmower. “But after 41 years, when it came time to make a transition, there was only one company I ever considered selling to, and that was Weingartz.”

Commercial Lawnmower, founded in 1978 at 32098 Plymouth Rd., will continue servicing all brands of outdoor power equipment, including everything previously sold by the company. Weingartz also will bring its brands and services to the location. The name has been changed to Weingartz and is open.

“We have the utmost respect for John (Murphy) and the business he built, as we share many of his same business philosophies: treating employees like family and providing the best customer service possible at all times,” says Dan Weingartz, president of Weingartz. “We’re looking forward to continuing to provide his customers with the same excellent level of customer satisfaction as we continue to grow our company.”

All 12 former employees of Commercial Lawnmower as well as Murphy will remain as Weingartz employees.
