Washington D.C.’s Pie Insurance has announced it now offers workers’ compensation insurance to small businesses in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Nebraska. Office locations will be announced at a later date.
The five states join Pie’s coverage area, which includes Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. The business offers insurance online, as well as quotes around the clock. It uses predictive analytics and datasets to digitize workers’ compensation insurance, which could save small business owners up to 30 percent.
“Shopping for insurance should be simple and accessible just like other products and services we buy online,” says John Swigart, co-founder and CEO of Pie. “America’s small businesses deserve a better workers’ comp insurance experience, as well as the ability to find savings in the process.”
Pie attracted $4.3 million in seed funding from Sirius Group, Moxley Holdings, and Elefund in 2017. In 2018, Greycroft and Aspect Ventures joined existing investors to bolster geographic expansion and scale operations as part of Pie’s $11-million Series A Funding round.
Pie is a managing general agency for Sirius America Insurance Co., a subsidiary of Sirius Group.
