tAfter receiving significant attention on Freebie-Depot.com, a list of 500-plus birthday freebies is now available as an app on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

t“Free birthday offers are the most popular item among all the free offers we feature,” says Tim Pearsall, owner of Freebie-Depot.com, based in Lambertville in Monroe County. “The list of over 500 offers has been pinned on Pinterest over 140,000 times. Mobile, on-the-go access was the next natural step.”

tThe app, called Free BDay, allows users to compile, print, and email lists of their favorite offers to themselves, family, and friends. They can also share the offers through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google+.

tPearsall began compiling a list of free birthday offerings after managing a small Italian restaurant in Toledo. “I found that getting people to come in on their birthdays is a huge source of long-term revenue for any business. You’re building loyalty with your guests and customers. And with restaurants in particular, a big draw is that customers usually bring other people with them. People don’t normally go out (to eat) by themselves,” he says.

tNationally, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP), which offers customers a free stack of pancakes on their birthday, is one of the biggest traffic drivers on Pearsall’s website. Main Street Ventures, whose restaurants include Gratzi and The Chop House in Ann Arbor, has one of the most popular offers in the region: “They give you 50 percent off your entire bill,” Pearsall says.
