Island Resort and Casino, located in the Upper Peninsula near Escanaba, will debut its new spa this spring, which includes an upgraded indoor pool and a fitness center with a sauna and steam rooms. The renovations are part of the resort’s $8 million expansion project, which includes the remodeling of the lobby, entrance, and retail space within its 300-room hotel.

Island Resort and Casino is also adding a new, 18-hole golf course, expected to be completed next year. The course, about six miles from the resort, will be played about two-thirds through trees, with rugged features like non-manicured bunker edging.

The resort, home to Sweetgrass Golf Club, offers more than 1,200 slot machines, along with games such as poker, Blackjack, and Roulette at its casino.

Ken Meshigaud, chairman of the Hannahville Indian Community, a band of the Potawatomi Nation, which owns and operates the resort, says the Drift Spa will offer massages, pedicures, and haircuts. He says it will also feature treatments and special occasion events including pre-wedding parties, birthday gifts, and post-golf massages, among others.

“Through the years, the Hannahville Indian Community has undertaken projects to enhance and promote the Island Resort and Casino,” he says. “We … believe our full-service resort destination will appeal to customers near and far.”

Meshiguad says the resort is currently hiring staff for the spa.
