A Troy-based composites manufacturer has added four production plants through a new acquisition.

Collectively, National Composites serves the marine and recreation, hospitality, electric and specialty vehicles, medical, heavy equipment, agriculture, transportation, and fire and safety industries.

The latest acquisition is Sunrise Fiberglass in Wyoming, Minn. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company was founded in 1968 and specializes in custom-molded fiberglass components and handcrafted assemblies.

The acquisitions are part of a long-term plan to expand the company’s manufacturing capabilities and geographical footprint, says Adam Fenton, COO of National Composites.

“As we reviewed the growth opportunities in the composite marketplace, we strategically targeted those companies that could join and complement our offerings,” he says. “Our plan is to be able to provide on-time, on-budget composite solutions to our current and future customers, complemented by a team of professionals that will partner with clients to plan and create solutions that fulfill market demands.”

National Composites, which supplies fiber-reinforced plastic and thermoformed products, operates MPI (Molded Plastics Industries) in Holt and Great Lakes Composites and Excel Pattern and Tool in Owosso. Each location has multiple capabilities and is staffed by career fiberglass specialists.

The company’s clients include Navistar, Oshkosh, Pierce, Spartan Motors, Worthington Industries, Zeus Electric Chassis, and HYDAC.
