“Trap City,” an urban drama directed by Tel K. Ganesan, president and CEO of Kyyba Films in Farmington Hills, is set to make its exclusive Detroit premiere on Dec. 13 at Emagine Royal Oak.

The film’s cast features Grammy-nominated rapper Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins in his acting debut, Brandon T. Jackson (“Tropic Thunder,” “Percy Jackson and The Olympians”), and Erica Pinkett (“All Eyez on Me,” “BMF”).

“Trap City” is a tale of resilience, redemption, and ambition. The story follows Deshawn (Brandon T. Jackson), a young artist working as a drop man for a drug kingpin, whose life takes a dramatic turn when he records a viral hit song just hours before his arrest.

Facing life-altering decisions, Deshawn must navigate the precarious balance between survival, fame, and morality.

Jenkins portrays Reverend Lylee, a morally complex character navigating the intersection of faith and the harsh realities of urban life.

The film also features Clifton Powell (Ray), Omar Gooding (Baby Boy), and international stars Yogi Babu, GV Prakash Kumar, and Nepoleon Duraisamy.

The film is directed, produced, and written by Ganesan, and executive produced by Jenkins, Ashwin T. Ganesan, G.B. Theos, Nasik Rav (Yisrael), and David E. Taylor.

“More than just a film, ‘Trap City’ is a movement that reflects the intricate tapestry of the contemporary world. It sheds light on the magnetic attraction of fame and the shadows where power can either uplift or shatter the human spirit, says Ganesan, founder and executive chairman of Kyyba Inc. in Farmington Hills.

In addition to film production, Kyyba Inc.’s portfolio includes staffing solution, R&D, emerging technologies, and health and wellness.

The Detroit premiere marks the kickoff of “Trap City’s” nationwide release, also on Dec. 13, where it will be shown across 70 theaters in more than 30 cities, including major chains like AMC Theaters, Emagine Cinemas, Star Cinema Grill, and more.

Key highlights of the rollout include:

  • Nationwide Coverage: Additional partnerships with Emagine Theaters, Star Cinema Grill, B&B Theaters, Premiere Cinemas, and Galaxy Theaters.
  • Major Markets: High-profile premieres in Atlanta and Detroit, and theatrical releases in Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York.
