Tire Wholesalers Co. Inc. (TWI) has pre-leased a 275,401-square-foot industrial building being constructed at the former Detroit Armory site on Eight Mile Road in Oak Park.
TWI is a regional tire distribution company currently in Troy. Slated for completion by the end of the year, the building will be Tire Wholesalers’ new headquarters and distribution center.
“Our business has grown considerably in the past five years,” says Ross Kogel Sr., founder of TWI. “We are excited to join the Oak Park community and grateful to move to a larger headquarters where we can further update our warehouse technologies and logistics systems.”
Oak Park City Manager Erik Tungate says: “This a welcomed development for the city of Oak Park as it creates additional job opportunities and adds to the city’s tax base. To have the former armory site built out is a long-time dream realized and we are so excited to have such successful and community-minded businesses make this dream a reality.”
The Opus Group of Minnesota is the developer, design-builder, architect, and structural engineer of record for the project. The Detroit Armory site is owned by Schostak Brothers and Co. in Livonia.
“We are excited to be developing a modern industrial building on this prime infill parcel in Oak Park while helping Tire Wholesalers bring their vision for the future to life,” says Mike Robinson, senior director of real estate development for Opus.
