The Morrie along Main Street in downtown Royal Oak will be replaced by the Blind Owl Restaurant. The newly renovated space will reopen in mid-September.
This past Sunday, The Morrie closed following eight years in business, and owner Aaron F. Belen, owner of AFB Hospitality Group in Berkley, handed over the keys to the new owner with a new concept for the space, Nicolas Andreasson of Blind Owl Restaurant in downtown New Baltimore.
Belen who will be leasing the building to Andreasson, which will become the new home of Modern Latin and Sushi Infusion Restaurant and Blind Owl. This will be Blind Owl’s second location.
“The Morrie has been very popular since opening in 2016, but we’re now ready to pass the torch to Blind Owl’s Nicolas Andreasson,” says Belen. “Since purchasing the building in 2015, Blind Owl will be my first tenant in the space, and I look forward to supporting their success.”
Andreasson, who is Romanian born, migrated from Sweden and moved to Michigan in 1996. He specializes in international fusion cuisine with menu items like street tacos, shawarma nachos, lamb braised Birria, Fettuccine Alfredo, a large selection of sushi and rolls, along with American comfort foods like chicken wings, Boom Shakalaka cheeseburgers, and grilled cheese sandwiches.
Blind Owl will offer a full bar, including cocktail, liquor, and wine options, along with a wide selection of draft beers. Every Thursday, the restaurant will host Ladies Night with half off glasses and bottles of wine along with house margaritas and $2 domestic beers and $5 all drafts.
There will be live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night.
“We’ve been looking to expand for a while, and this was the perfect spot. Our goal is to be recognized as the premier destination in Royal Oak for culinary innovation with the freshest ingredients, unparalleled hospitality, and vibrant social gatherings — where every guest feels welcomed, indulged, and eager to return,” says Andreasson.
Meanwhile, The Morrie in downtown Birmingham, which Belen also owned, is in the process of being sold. The new owners plan to offer a novel restaurant concept.
