
Michigan Auto Law, the largest law firm in Michigan that specializes exclusively in auto accident cases, has identified the Top 20 Most Dangerous Intersections in Michigan, and 11 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Warren/Center Line is the most dangerous.
According to Michigan State Police’s Traffic Reporting Unit numbers, the intersection, which includes ramps to and from I-696, saw 218 total crashes and 52 injuries in 2023. The total number of crashes increased 68.9 percent over the last five years, from 129 in 2019.
Michigan Auto Law says its goal in releasing the accident data is to give drivers the information they need to make safe decisions for themselves and their families, whether that means taking an alternative route or being extra cautious while traveling through one of the intersections on the list.
To help spread its safety message, Michigan Auto Law has also launched a public safety campaign with strategically placed billboards around several of the key intersections that have traditionally been on the list each year.
The other intersections on the Michigan Auto Law list include:
- Martin Parkway-N. Pontiac Trail (roundabout) in Commerce Township (160 crashes, 11 injuries)
- Schoolcraft Road-Telegraph Road in Redford Township (154 crashes, 47 injuries)
- 18 Mile Road-Van Dyke Avenue (roundabout) in Sterling Heights (135 crashes, 9 injuries)
- Orchard Lake Road-14 Mile Road (roundabout) in Farmington Hills (132 crashes, 12 injuries)
- State Road-W. Ellsworth Road (roundabout) in Ann Arbor (126 crashes, 5 injuries)
- S. 131-Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids (112 crashes, 1 fatality, 28 injuries)
- 10 Mile Road-I-94 in St. Clair Shores (100 crashes, 33 injuries)
- Telegraph Road-12 Mile Road in Southfield (99 crashes, 35 injuries)
- Southfield Road-W 11 Mile Road in Lathrup Village (96 crashes, 30 injuries)
- 11 Mile Road-I-696 at Hoover in Warren (86 crashes, 18 injuries)
- Middlebelt Road-Schoolcraft Road in Livonia (80 crashes, 15 injuries)
- Burton Street SW-U.S. 131 in Grand Rapids (77 crashes, 21 injuries)
- Joy Road-M-39 in Detroit (72 crashes, 20 injuries)
- Warren Avenue-I-75 in Detroit (71 crashes, 28 injuries)
- Ford Road-Telegraph Road in Dearborn (71 crashes, 21 injuries)
- Metropolitan Parkway-Van Dyke Avenue in Sterling Heights (70 crashes, 1 fatality, 16 injuries)
- Oakley Park Road-Martin Parkway (roundabout) in Commerce Township (70 crashes, 4 injuries)
- Seven Mile Road-I-75 in Detroit (69 crashes, 35 injuries)
- 11 Mile Road-Gratiot Avenue in Roseville (69 crashes, 20 injuries)
