Taubman Asia, a subsidiary of Taubman Centers Inc. in Bloomfield Hills, which owns and operates luxury shopping malls in the U.S. and Asia, has debuted a new 1.7 million-square-foot shopping center — the largest western-style mall in South Korea — in the city of Hanam that features international fashion retailers, luxury flagship stores, restaurants, entertainment, and more.

Developed by Taubman Asia and Shinsegae Group, a Korean retail company group, the Starfield Hanam shopping center is nearly 100 percent leased and occupied with almost 300 stores and 11,000 square feet of dining options.

“Starfield Hanam is Taubman Asia’s first ground-up development in South Korea, and we could not be more thrilled with this center,” says Robert S. Taubman, chairman, president, and CEO of Taubman Centers. “Together with our partner Shinsegae, we have created an unparalleled destination that has exceeded all expectations.”

Starfield Hanam’s collection of international luxury brands includes Balenciaga, Burberry, Fendi, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Prada, and more. Fast fashion stores such as H&M, Uniqlo, and Zara are also available, and Shinsegae, a Korean department store brand, anchors the mall.

Gourmet Street, on the ground level of the mall, features 17 restaurants and cafes, while the Eatopia food court offers 18 kiosks specializing in local artisan eats. The food court has indoor/outdoor seating with views of South Korea’s Han River and Gumdan Mountain.

The shopping center also offers showrooms by BMW, Genesis, Hyundai, and Harley Davidson; an 11-screen cinema; a sportsplex with rock climbing, basketball, and more; and a 112,000-square-foot waterpark.

Located just east of Seoul, Starfield Hanam is connected to the Misa road, which is linked to the Greater Seoul freeway network. The shopping center offers 6,200 parking spaces and access to bus transportation routes.

Taubman Asia is the platform for Taubman Centers’ expansion into China and South Korea. The company opened CityOn.Xi’an in Xi’an, China, in 2016, and will open CityOn.Zhenzghou in Zhengzhou, China, in 2017. In 2015, Taubman Centers opened The Mall of San Juan in Puerto Rico, and completed projects at Cherry Creek Shopping Center in Denver, Dolphin Mall in Miami, Beverly Center in Los Angeles, and Sunvalley in California. Locally, the company owns Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills.
